Bone Density Testing

Osteoporosis is a disease that affects mostly women over the age of 65. Those at the greatest risk for osteoporosis are women who have had:
  • hormone replacement therapy for a number of years
  • postmenopausal women who have a bone fracture
  • women younger than 65 with any risk factors for osteoporotic fracture including:
    • family history of the disease
    • diet low in calcium
    • a sedentary lifestyle
    • history of smoking or heavy drinking
Osteoporosis robs bones of their strength and density making your risk for bone fractures greater. LVS provides bone mineral density tests with its modern DPX Bone Densitometer. This painless bone scan can detect even minute traces of bone loss. If you think you could be at risk for osteoporosis, ask your healthcare professional to schedule your bone densitometry appointment or call LVS’ Radiology Department at 334-383-2327 for more information about this test before a fracture occurs.
